Mock Trial
Helping students get better at their critical thinking, presentation, and communication skills. We welcome both homeschool and non-homeschool students in the Wichita area!
Course Detail
High school students will prepare for trial as a team while being coached by a real attorney. They will compete against other high school mock trial teams from the area in the Wichita Mock Trial organized by the Kansas Bar Association in late February/early March.
During the competition, the team will present their case before a real judge and jury of real-life attorneys from the Kansas Bar Association.
Key Skills and Objectives
Emmi McCabe
Advisor
Mrs. McCabe has been teaching history and social studies for over a decade. She loves teaching students through debate, films, and discussions. She was in her high school mock trial team many years ago and consider it a life-changing experience.
Desiree’ Smith
Attorney Coach
Desiree’ K. Smith, is an associate attorney at Olson Henry, LLC. She graduated from Washburn University School of Law in May of 2021 with certificates in Family Law, Oil and Gas Law, along with Environmental Law. She was awarded the CALI Excellence for the future awards in Torts, Contracts, and Legal Research & Writing II, Constitutional Law II.
Thursday Afternoons in Wichita
We will begin officially meeting for practice on Thursday, August 29. Feel free to drop in anytime to check us out before you commit! The Wichita regional mock trial competition is usually held in late February or early March.

We Welcome All High Schoolers, Whether You are Homeschooling or Not
All high schoolers are welcome, whether homeschooling or not. Last year’s team had high school students who were homeschooling, enrolled in a hybrid model or microschool, and attended a public high school.
Though, only high schoolers are able to compete, we gladly welcome middle schoolers who are interested in learning and preparing to become a competing member in the future!
*We will need a team of at least six students in order to compete in the regional competition.
Cost for high schoolers: $40/month
Cost for middle schoolers: $30/month
