Testimonials

Last year in 2020, my husband and I made the decision to homeschool our 4 children who were in grades 1, 2, 4, and 5. Emmi McCabe at Loreto Learning was an essential part of our homeschool experience, and in great part due to her involvement and help, we all had a wonderful experience. She taught all the subjects for our 1st and 2nd grade children during the second half of the school year and history to our 4th and 5th grade boys for the entire year. She also organized extra-curricular activities, which included a pop-up carnival celebrating All Saints Day, a museum field trip, and a short Christmas film. She has a great gift for motivating kids to work independently and with purpose. This was particularly evident to me when my kids, including the 1st grader, showed me their finished carnival stations, all done on their own after she took them to get supplies! She gave my older boys great geography and critical thinking skills, which has already put them ahead of their peers this year. She also had great patience with my younger kids, and was able to motivate the 1st grader who was struggling with math and reading comprehension. Emmi was such a great resource when I needed help in managing the problems I’d encounter with teaching my older boys. Her experience in the classroom helped me understand what parts of the curricula were essential and what were extra, especially when I felt overwhelmed with the suggested lesson plans. Even though we provided her the history curricula for 4th and 5th grade, she knew from her classroom experience what extra resources and assignments/projects to add in order to help my children develop skills they needed for middle school and beyond. Her mastery of distance-learning tools, such as Google Meet, were essential in making remote-learning a success for the first half of the year when it was necessary. Our kids are back in the classroom now, and I have been able to appreciate even more how well she prepared them with the skills they need, especially in 5th and 6th grades. Truly, her talent for assessing my children’s potential and motivating them to complete projects I thought were beyond their ability makes her a rare gem among educators! Thank you for all your help, Emmi!

You are without a doubt the best history teacher I have had in my educational career. I have taken all AP History classes for all of high school, and you still trump these teachers with your incredibly deep and broad knowledge of what seems to be all of human history. I learned to accurately answer long answers and how to slay multiple choice questions under your tutelage. On top of that, you helped me and Cameron and the rest of the Quiz Bowl team go all the way to nationals which is incredible. Your impact on my life has been undeniable. Thank you so much.

As my mentor teacher in my first year teaching, Emmi was a continual gift of support and encouragement. Emmi provided me with practical ways to tackle issues with classroom management, parent relationships, and overall adjustment to the fast pace of teaching. She helped me look ahead when all I could focus on was the present moment. So much of the first year of teaching is reaction, and it is exhausting. Emmi helped me prioritize, care for myself, and move on from situations that frustrated me and tempted me to lose focus. Emmi is empathetic, experienced, and encouraging. I’d absolutely recommend her as a mentor teacher – not just to get you through Thanksgiving break, but the whole first year and beyond!
